College Library

Library is a major component of an educational institution. No school or college can be conceived without it. A formative mind needs books to guide and direct it. The Library of Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya was established in 1954. VKM library has a rich collection of books and journals to cater to the needs of the students, teaching & non-teaching staff. The library has been continuously upgraded since its establishment. At present VKM library is fully automated and Wi-Fi enabled. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of library books is available for the users on the ground and first floor of the library. To save the time of users, electronic issue-return process is running through a barcode system. Previous years' question papers and syllabi of all UG/PG courses run by the college are available in digital form. Various e-materials related to courses are also available.

Details of VKM Library

  • Total area of the library (in Sq. Mts.): 239.63 Sq. Mts.
  • Total seating capacity of reading room:120
  • Working hours of the Library: 10 am to 5 pm on all working days. (Except Institutional holidays)
  • The library is fully-automated and user-friendly. Open access facility to the stack is provided for PG students and research scholars.
  • A reading room with reference books, magazines, journals, periodicals, newspapers is open for both students and staff members.
  • The reading room is also equipped with Wi-Fi enabled computers to access the Library OPAC and digital library.
  • Library has book bank facility for needy students.

Vision

The library adheres to the vision of Dr S.R. Ranganathan that every reader should get his book and every book should get its reader. To fulfill this aim the library aims to maximize the variety and circulation of books, journals, magazines, thesis and other intellectual resources.

Mission

The Mission of the VKM Library is

  • To motivate various stakeholders for reading.
  • To encourage the readers for paying regular visits to library.
  • To provide physical and intellectual access to information in a warm, stimulating, and safe environment.
  • To equip and empower students with relevant knowledge, competence, value and creativity to face global challenges.
  • To provide state-of-the-art facilities to research scholars and faculty members.

Objectives

  • The primary objective of a library is to provide the right information to the right users at the right time.
  • To support all educational programs organized in the college premise.
  • To promote literacy and education, and disseminate useful information to the stakeholders.
  • To select, collect, create, organize, preserve, manage and provide access to information sources in print, non-print and digital forms, regardless of physical location, to support uninterrupted scholarly pursuit, learning, teaching and research.
  • To assist the users in the most effective use of the reference resources.

Library Collection

Library has a rich collection of books on Arts & Social Sciences. There are 35261 total collections of books, 51 journals, 17 magazines and 10 newspapers till March 2024 to cater to the needs of the users. Tabulation of Collection of books is as follows:

WEB OPAC

  • WEB OPAC is not just a platform with search/ browse facilities but also provides a host of various services like scanned previous year question papers, syllabus, open source e-books, institutional repository, college e-magazines, and other important links for the users.

N-LIST

    N-List stands for “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content”. The programme was funded by the MHRD under NME-ICT to extend access to selected e-resources to colleges covered under section 12B of UGC Act as well as to Non-aided College. The programme has submitted under e-ShodhSindhu (eSS) consortium as college component from year 2014 being funded by University Grants Commission. College has subscribed to N-LIST database which provides college students, researchers, professors & staff the opportunity to deepen their knowledge using the e-resources through the server of the INFLIBNET. Users will have to click on members Login through NLIST website. It will display list of E-Resources. Details of E-Resources (E-Journals & E- Books) are shown here under:

    Once user details have been successfully uploaded in N-LIST. User will receive an email from N-LIST with an activation link. Users are supposed to click on that link that will lead to a page where they will be asked for User ID and Password. Once users activate their account they will be able to access E-Resources.
