The Department of Sociology at Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya in Varanasi holds a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1972. Rooted in the principles of understanding society as a whole and addressing the intricate interplay of its components, our department stands as a beacon of knowledge and inquiry. Sociology emerged out of the urgent need to create a science that could comprehensively examine society as a whole. It serves a dual role, both as a synthetic discipline that seeks to unify the insights of separate academic fields and as an analytical, specialized science with its own unique area of research. What sets Sociology apart is its ability to offer a holistic perspective on society and culture.
