The Department of History at VKM College, established in 1954, serves as a key pillar of the humanities, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. We take pride in our professional faculty and our dedication to fostering a passion for history, critical thinking, and understanding the past. Our department emphasizes the importance of history in interpreting the present and shaping the future, exploring themes from ancient civilizations to modern times. We encourage students to engage with diverse historical narratives, challenge conventional viewpoints, and cultivate a global perspective. We also host a range of seminars, workshops, and lectures that enrich the academic experience and promote scholarly discourse, preparing our students to excel in academia, research, and beyond.

Interdisciplinary projects and activities are promoted in the department through various efforts and collaborations. The department has been organizing seminars, workshops and lecture programs for students jointly with other departments of the college, i.e. Economics, AIHC, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, & Sanskrit and the departments of different institution/college.

The department runs the student-led club “Itivritt,” designed to engage academically driven students in activities such as Expert Talks, Colloquiums, and Competitions, all under faculty guidance. The students also publish the annual e-magazine "Itivritt," featuring articles based on their hands-on experiences with historical research. They visit documents and write about historical sites, cultivating research skills and analytical writing abilities.
